Victoria is SERIOUS ABOUT SHIFTERS

Welcome to my stop on the Seriously Shifter GIVEAWAY Hop.

Late summer I will be launching a new series entitled Exiled.

Following is the introduction that was given in Book 6 of the Knights of Black Swan, A Tale of Two Kingdoms.

Rosie had waited on a tabletop boulder on a windswept mountaintop of Prescient Dimension where she went when she needed to contact Kellareal for longer than usual. She explained that she wanted a change of environment, where she could take a break from her life and rethink the direction of things.

She knew she’d pushed things with Glen, but she also knew that, despite her feelings and desires to the contrary, the relationship wasn’t serious and wasn’t going to be. Not for a while. He’d made his decision. He was going wherever Z Team went and at least she had enough pride to know she wasn’t going to follow along like a camp whore. Even if he’d let her. Which he probably wouldn’t.

So she’d take a lesson from that and maybe look for a little adventure of her own while she was young. While she was young.

The breeze that blew her wild hair back from her face grew a little softer. Kellareal appeared to float down from the sky wearing a long white robe that billowed around him, arms outstretched as if inviting embrace, and landed in front of her soundlessly. She knew he would want to be congratulated on the theater, so she clapped. He bowed.

“Lally. How long do you think I’m going to live?”

“You called me for that?” He picked up a pebble, sat down beside her, and threw it out over the canyon overlook. “We may have to rethink your summoning privilege if you’re going to abuse it, young lady.”

“No, that’s not why I called, but since you’re here…”

“Well, your elemental side is very long lived, meaning eons. Your human side is cursed with short life under the best of circumstances. Then there is the issue of fragility, the moment to moment uncertainty, the… risk, if you will, of being human. I tell you, it causes me to marvel constantly at their courage. Living under those circumstances, I’m not sure that I wouldn’t just curl into a ball and hope for sudden death to put an end to the suspense.”

“If they only knew how cynical real angels sound, you would never get your own TV shows.”

“Hmmm. No doubt.” He grinned. “But a few feather sightings would bring them right back around.”

Rosie giggled. “You’re hopeless.”

“And is that why you wanted to see me?”

“No. I need to get out of town for a while, change of scenery. Maybe I need to broaden my experience.”

“Get out of town,” he repeated drily. “What does your mother think of this?”

“She thinks she can get in touch with you if there’s an emergency and that you’ll know where to find me.”

The angel pursed his lips, stood and paced for a while. “Vacations are fun. Sabbaticals are informative. Quests are enlightening, sometimes cathartic. Retreats are rejuvenating. Treks are adventurous. This?” He stopped and looked at Rosie. “This sounds like running away. Hard to put a noble spin on running away.”

“I’m not necessarily asking for your blessing, Lally. Just a place to…”

“…hide?”

Rosie flushed. “It’s a favor.”

Kellareal looked at her for a long time. “I can’t decide without hearing the whole story. I want to know exactly what it is you’re running from and what you’re hoping to gain.”

By the time Rosie finished spelling it out, she was sorry she had started the whole thing. Spelling out what had brought her to that mountaintop sounded spoiled, selfish, childish and silly, even to herself as she said it. She supposed that was one of the angel’s goals in having her connect the dots out loud. She hoped that the worst of it, humiliation-wise, was over.

“Have you thought about how long you want to be away?”

She hadn’t thought about it.

“Do I have to decide that now?”

“No. I suppose you can do a pay-as-you-go plan.”

“Wait. What do you mean pay-as-you-go?”

The angel took her elbow and pulled her to her feet. Standing several inches taller, he looked down into her face. “You’re right, Elora Rose. It is time for you to learn something of the world. First lesson, nothing’s free.”

A few minutes later they were standing on the periphery of an enclosure – a crude, gray stone wall. From what Rosie could see, there were homes and buildings built around a park-like commons area with sparse gas lighting, but the overall impression of the place was of a fort. Through a break in the wall that formed a gate with iron bars, she could see that they were on a hilltop overlooking the lights of a large town.

The air was scented with the welcoming smell of wood burning fires releasing white smoke into the atmosphere. The prominent feature of the compound was a long row of motorcycles, some of which had parts shiny enough to reflect in the cold moonlight.

beast background“Where are we?” Rosie asked.

“It’s a project of mine, Rosie. A secret. You can’t ever tell anyone.”

“Okay.”

“Promise.”

“I do.”

“They’re what’s left of Telstar.”

“Telstar? Isn’t that one of those worlds that went crazy with genetic engineering?”

“I guess it depends on what you mean by ‘went crazy’.”

“Okay. Let me put it this way. You start out with a wolf. You end up with a Shih Tzu or a Pug. You start out with a human, you end up with a …”

“The flaw in your argument is the owners of dogs like that would say they’re an improvement on the prototype.”

Rosie blinked. “So you’re saying you’re taking me to a place where I should be prepared for…” She left the end of that sentence for him to fill in the blank.

“Okay. Consider this your briefing in a nutshell. There were some experiments that went on for a couple of generations. People became concerned and even invoked religious invective to fuel a movement to eradicate all the produce of the experiment.”

“Produce?” He nodded. “You mean the people?”

“That is what I mean and I, ah, intervened. I saw an opportunity to solve two problems. There was a group of people here in need of protection, which is one of the ways Telstar skills might be used. This group was under threat of genocide. I knew the Telstar survivors would relate. So I paired them with the humans that needed them. “

He waved his hand at the darkness. “It’s pretty here. This dimension hasn’t been ruined yet. Lots of everything. Gives them a chance.” He looked at Rosie. “You know?”

“Wasn’t that against some rule?”

The angel pursed his lips and heaved a big sigh. “Rules need to be placed in the context of knowing the rule makers. And their agenda.”

Rosie studied his face in the darkness. “Lally, you’re an anarchist.”

“Guess that depends on who you talk to.”

“Are there others?”

“Other elementals who think like I do?” She nodded. “Yeah. Anyway. They’ve been here for a while now. Some have started families. Their own take on culture is starting to emerge. Interesting to watch. The one in charge of the place is a nice fellow with a nice family. Owes me a favor. Simple as that.”

“Does everybody in the multiverse owe you a favor?”

His mouth twitched at the corner as he looked down at her. “Working on it.” His eyes drifted back to the settlement. Rosie thought she saw a hint of pride. Proud sponsor perhaps.

“This could be a good place to get your thoughts sorted out. They’ll give you a job and who knows? Maybe a new perspective. So welcome to the EC. That’s what they call it, short for Exile Camp. By the way, don’t mention Telstar. They don’t like to be reminded. I don’t blame them. They left that behind to start a new life.” He turned to face Rosie. “A new world really.”

She looked around again. “What’s with the motorcycles?”

His expression was definitely sheepish. “Oh, they, the Telstar, like them. A lot. So they became part of our arrangement. I made an adjustment to the engines so they’ll run on water and threw tools and maintenance stuff in with the deal.”

“Are you saying that they’re weren’t motorcycles here before?”

“No. Every dimension develops differently. You know that.”

“Well, yes… So how did you get motorcycles here?”

He laughed. “Rode them.”

“You did not.”

He nodded, grinning. “One at a time.”

“I didn’t know you could ride a motorcycle through the passes.”

“For all I know, I’m the only one who knows it. Let’s keep it that way. Okay?”

She shrugged. “Okay. What do they look like?”

“Look like?” Kellareal laughed out loud. “Oh, sweet baby.”

Black Swan – A Return to Romance – Monday, Feb. 10th

Black Swan is getting a new look. Yes, indeed. Some of the covers of your favorite books in the series have gotten a facelift. This week I will present one a day ending Friday – Valentine’s Day – with a cover reveal and announcement regarding the next book. Starting today, Monday, with MOONLIGHT.

Victoria’s unique take on Red Riding Hood.

“Oh, yeah.”

Interview with Stalkson Grey 10/31/13

PARANORMALCRAVINGSshifters-event-160THIS IS A COPY OF THE INTERVIEW DONE BY REQUEST FOR PARANORMAL CRAVINGS.

Victoria: First, thank you for agreeing to the interview. I know this is not your favorite sort of thing. Let me take just a moment to make sure your readers are on the same page, so to speak. Stalkson Grey, is a werewolf who first appeared in The Order of the Black Swan serial saga in Book Two, The Witch’s Dream. His character, as king of the Elk Mountain, Idaho werewolf tribe, was arrogant and more or less insufferable.

Grey: Now just a minute!

Victoria: He turns up again in Book Four, Moonlight, and gives a rousing performance as my somewhat loosely associated version of Red Riding Hood’s big bad wolf. Now then. Grey, I understand congratulations are in order. The elders named you king of the new northern werewolf colony in Lunark dimension.

Grey: (nods)

Victoria: Forgive me for being blunt, but I thought you didn’t want to be king, too much responsibility and all that.

Grey: I didn’t. I don’t. It just turns out that I hate being told what to do more than I hate having the responsibility for everybody’s welfare.

Victoria: I see. So how is it going? I see you’re looking rather casual.

Grey: (Glances down at his pants and smiles. He was shirtless and wearing the same soft doeskin pants that Deliverance favors.) Yes. We don’t have many functions that require waistcoats.

Victoria: Waistcoats. No. I suppose not. Those pants look a lot like what Deliverance wears. And didn’t I hear that you named the new colony Deliverance?

Grey: Yes.

Victoria: Yes? Just yes?

Grey: The demon hooked me up with the pants. The new colony is named Deliverance.

Victoria: Okay. Shall we assume the colony was named for the demon?

Grey: Assume whatever you like.

Victoria: Come on. Work with me a little here.

Grey: All right. I named it Deliverance partly because the demon brought us here, partly because we were delivered from years of worry and misconception about extinction of our species, partly because of the reality of being delivered from the cancerous, avaricious behavior of the humans, and partly because the migration was my delivery into a new life. Like being born again.

Victoria: (It took me a minute to absorb all that.) Wow.

Grey: (He rolled one shoulder in a graceful, athletic shrug.)

Victoria: So how’s Luna? It can’t be easy to be a new wife and adjust to life on a frontier at the same time.

Grey: (He blinded me with a boyish grin that made him look like he was in his early twenties.) Happy. Pregnant. With twins! (He chuckled.) She tells everybody that Lunark Dimension was named after her. She’s well-liked by the other human mates and her skills as healer, well, we needed them. She’s teaching the others.

Victoria: (I couldn’t help but smile at that.) That’s nice, Grey. I’m glad it’s working out for both of you. When are the babies due?

Grey: Mid-winter. We’ll make it work.

Victoria: Do you want girls or boys?

Grey: (He grinned again.) Girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Romantic Adventure!! May 23, 2013
“What is this?” she asked, running her hand over the jacket. “Sheepskin.” She looked at him with genuine amusement. “So when you wear this, you’re literally a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
There are so many “Quotes” I Love in this book. This is one of my favorites. Victoria has pure genius. Her writing just draws you in. I sighed, cried, laughed out loud!!!! I sat on the edge of my seat. I was so entertained. I say Harry Potter look out because The Order of the Black Swan is here!!! I believe these are the books to read.
If you want adventure, suspense, Romance, Action, Dimension travel, Did I mention True Love!!! I have been reading since I was 13 (41 years ago). I have read tens of thousands of books. I have my favorite Authors. Truthfully Victoria is Now #1.
This book has a diverse set of personalities & characters! Werewolves, Elves, Fae, Demons, Vampire, Berserkers, Witches, Lets not forget Knights. Hunky Knights at that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting!!!!!!!! Great Paddy!!,May 24, 2013

Wow, Danann did it again! Kudos!!!Moonlight, is book four for Victoria Danann. Ms Danann’s style of writing captivates and brings you on a fantastically sexy ride.I found myself laughing out loud at times. While other times needing to pour myself a drink and fan myself. Whew!!I love being caught up in her world of sexy vamps, elves, demons, and weres. She’s found quite the successful combination. If you adored the other three books, you will certainly fall in love all over again. I’m definitely sweet on Black Swan, and oh boy do I have it bad for Sir Rammel. If you love PNR, she’s the author for you. I can’t recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars You are going to LOVE Moonlight!, May 23, 2013
Victoria Danann’s fourth book in the Black Swan series, “Moonlight: The Big Bad Wolf” is the best yet of her books (which says something since I think they are all amazing). This book was a fun ride from beginning to end. While keeping us up with our favorites from the other books (Elora and Ram, Storm and Litha, Baka and Heaven, Deliverance, and of course Monq) we now get a peek into the lives of Song as well as Glen. As the title implies much of this book revolves around Stalkson Grey, whose life is turned on its’ end and will never again be the same. Finally, about the time you think you could never enjoy any characters more than you love the aforementioned, we get to meet the members of the rowdy Z team, and new interesting Vampire which shake the story up yet again. I loved this book, and am left craving Victoria’s next book which cannot come out soon enough for me. If you haven’t read the first three, then buy all four of them and read them in order. I promise it will be the most fun you’ve had while reading in a very long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best new series has a best new book., May 23, 2013
Moonlight is book 4 in a new paranormal series. If you are looking for elves, beserkers, witches, demons, vampires and werewolves then this series is for you. What sets Victoria Danann apart from other great writers in this genre are I believe are these 2 things. Her story is a continuation of the original story with many people and immortals being added and the fact that I laughed out loud in all the books. Moonlight gave more in that I cried as well.Stalkson Grey is superb as an old werewolf in love. He knows nothing so he turns to deliverance (a sex demon with a sense of humor)for help. Will Luna love him back?I can’t wait to see what happens to Glen and his new team and possibly his new position with Black Swan. It is yet again another outstanding story from a wonderful writer with an AWESOME imagination and a wicked sense of humor. As long as she keeps writing I will keep reading she puts out. Thank- you Victoria.I am now eagerly awaiting book 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another 5+ stars in this series!!, May 23, 2013

I said this in my reviews of the first three books, but I have to say it again – Victoria Danann’s writing style is amazing. The Order of the Black Swan is a series, however, it’s not just one story that continues on. Each book has it’s own unique tale, while continuing on with the story lines from the previous books. The books should be read in order though.
This series also has a little of everything for any reader: paranormal, sci-fi, romance, action, suspense . . . vampire, vampire hunters, wearwolves, hunky knights, assassins from a different dimension, witches, summoners, elves, fae, demons. I’m not kidding. It’s all in there.
Moonlight, the fourth book of this series, may be my favorite so far. Each book focuses on the love story of a different couple, while continuing on with the original storyline of ending the vampire epidemic. In Moonlight, the author also hints at a favorite childhood fairytale, Black Swan style of course. So far in this series, my heart has belonged to a certain sexy vampire, but I completely fell in love with Stalkson Grey in book 4, the wearwolf in this series and the main character in the newest love story. Once again, love knows no boundaries (or dimension). I have fallen in love with all of the characters in this series, though. It’s hard not to. This is why the author’s writing style is grabbing a hold of so many readers. The characters become like family to you. You watch over them, cheer them on, and feel their pain. You don’t have to give up any of the characters, even the secondary ones. They continue on into each book, so we get to keep up with their lives. As with all of the books in this series, you will laugh, fall in love, and white-knuckle your reader while you hang on for the ride.
I’m usually a fast reader, but with the Black Swan books I find myself reading slow, not only so I can savor every word, but also because I don’t want it to end. Luckily the series continues, and so I patiently wait for book 5. Well, maybe not patiently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting connected to nature and then some!, May 22, 2013
Let me start out with the fact that I have a great affinity for wolves. Okay, so that is out of the way, when Victoria finished her last book I was pleased, but also a bit skeptical on where and how she would take the characters to follow. I must say I am very well pleased and delighted. She has totally delighted me, surprised me, kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next and I simply could not put this book down! I laughed, felt my heart pulled, and know that there is a glorious hope and cannot wait for book number 5!!! This is the best book since book number 1!!! A definite MUST READ AND MUST OWN/HAVE!!!
